Not turkey united

This summer, Ukrainians managed to significantly save on holidays abroad. In addition to Turkey, which often does not have a shortage of tourists, vacationers from Ukraine managed to take advantage of the reduction in the cost of tours to popular resorts, for example, to Egypt. At the same time, not all travel agencies agree that vouchers “have fallen in price.” Simply, most of their customers are not ready to significantly spend money on vacation.

To the south

This year, Ukrainian tourists are changing their travel preferences. If previously Turkey was a popular country for holidays in the summer, and Egypt in the winter, now a new trend has emerged in the tourism market – Ukrainians increasingly prefer Egyptian resorts in the summer. This was partly because back in 2017, Russian tourists began to come to rest in large numbers on holiday in Turkey. Therefore, hotels in this country are less interested in accepting Ukrainians, explained RBC-Ukraine development director of the tourism company “Clean Tourism” Ivanna Chuchman.

“If one million tourists fly from Russia to Turkey every month to vacation, then from Ukraine – one million tourists fly as a whole during the year. As a result, Ukraine is not as important as a” tourist supplier “for Russia as Turkey. Therefore, Turkish hotels began to increase prices for vacations for Ukrainian tourists, “the expert explained.

Recall that in the fall of 2015, Russia imposed sanctions on the import and export of a number of Turkish goods, and also canceled charter flights to Turkey. Moscow introduced restrictive measures against Ankara after the incident with the Russian Su-24 military aircraft. As a Russian bomber violated Turkish airspace, he was shot down. Russia canceled the flight ban in the summer of 2016, and last year Russian tourists again became the main contingent of holidaymakers in Turkish resorts.

The executive director of the Ukrainian Association of Travel Agencies, Pavel Hrygorash, calculated that this summer tours to Turkey went up by 15% for Ukrainians compared to last year. As a result, now, in the midst of the season, many tour operators cannot “close their seats” on flights to Turkey at an adequate price. “Some of the flight programs have already been cut off. Turkish hotels are closing well this season, so they are not interested in lowering prices,” he says.

At the same time, the second most important country for vacationers, both from Ukraine and from Russia – Egypt – still lacks tourists. “Therefore, Egyptian hotels are trying to lure Ukrainian tourists by offering lower prices. If a few years ago vacationers were happy by paying one thousand dollars for a vacation in an Egyptian four-star hotel, this winter it was possible to fly to a five-star hotel for two for $ 500, “cites the example of Ivanna Chuchman.

As a result, this summer, tours to Egypt are much better than last season. “Sales have doubled. At the same time, in some large travel agency networks, sales have almost tripled,” said Grigorash. According to Paul, in July holidays in Egypt were 4% cheaper than last July.

This dynamics of prices for tours is confirmed by sales data of one of the largest networks of travel agencies “Come with us.” In June-July this year, the average check when selling tours on this network to Turkey increased by 5% compared to the same period last year to 36.1 thousand hryvnias, and in Egypt, on the contrary, decreased by 0.6% to 27 , 2 thousand hryvnia.

In general, according to estimates by Chuchman, from January to August, Turkish resorts visited approximately 300 thousand Ukrainian tourists (excluding visits to Istanbul), and Egypt – 150 thousand people (excluding Cairo). “But last year, the flow of tourists from Ukraine to Turkey was about 30-40% more,” said Ivanna Chuchman. “At the same time, this year the number of Ukrainian tourists in Egypt is about 10% more than in 2017.”

Europe “surrendered”

In general, according to the director of the network of travel agencies “Come with us” Oleg Kulik, this season tours to nine countries from the TOP-10 most popular among Ukrainians have fallen in price. In addition to Egypt, he said, the average check for tours to Spain decreased by almost 18%, Italy – by 5.3%, Montenegro – by almost 5%. “Apparently, due to the fact that tours to Turkey were constantly” burning “and the flow of tourists to Egypt increased significantly, tour operators began to” burn “tours to other countries. As a result, they had to reduce prices in these areas,” – suggests Oleg Kulik.

Tours to Egypt were significantly cheaper for Ukrainian tourists. In addition, competition between existing players has intensified in the market. “For example, a significant decrease in prices for tours to Spain can be explained by competition between two tour operators – Join Up and Anex Tour, which this year significantly increased the number of flights to this country,” said Kulik. “In order to normally close available seats on airplanes, they had to cut prices significantly. “
